McBrides Golf Society was formed in Comber, County Down in 1991. Our website charts the history of the society as well as giving the current members the information they need to keep the Society moving forward and developing further. The Society has now played 96 different golf courses in the British Isles and we are scheduled to reach the 100th by our 20th year.
We have well established Matchplay competitions, a full itinerary of outings and the highlight of the year, CAPTAIN’S WEEKEND. You can read about and see the places we have travelled to for our Captain’s Weekends within the website.
Please take the time to browse our website and if you live in or are thinking of coming to Northern Ireland, why not leave a message in the guest book and you never know, your society might end up playing a friendly match against us!
Captain 2011/ 2012
Davy's first duty as Captain was to announce the appointment of Sam Cranston as his Vice Captain for the coming year.
“It is a great honour to be asked to take on the role of Captain in McBrides Golf Society for 2011-2012. I am looking forward to a great year's craic!
The 100 different courses target is now well within our grasp and if everything goes well, Knightsbrook GC will have the honour of being the centurian course when it hosts our President's Day at the end of July 2012. We will also be making returns to other favourites which are tried and tested! Good luck to everyone in the various competitions between now and next July.
Captain's Weekend for next year has been booked and this year we will be going 'continental' for the first time. You might of heard of the saying 'going loco in Alcapulco' well we will be going 'barmy in Benidorm' as beautiful Costa Blanca hosts the society for four days of fun which includes the Fourball Betterball Trophy at Bonalba GC and Captain's Day at La Sella GC.
If you are new to the site, please take the time to browse around our website and you will see that we are a very well establish and successful Golf Society maybe we will see you join us at a future outing.”
Outgoing Captain Ronnie Geddis presented David with his green sweater at Athlone GC during Captain’s Weekend in Athlone at the end of July 2011.
