The Secretary's Thoughts
Captain's Weekend 2009 - Edinburgh
Just returned from touring the wonderful city of Edinburgh and what can only be described for some as a drinkfest! Who allows the bar open at 7.30am in the airport? I can understand the bar being open in Edinburgh at 10am because we need something with the fry but before the flight! Needless to say we were all happy when we got to the first tee at Musselburgh on Friday. Worryingly, I played well despite the jungle juice. Stevie Hewitt & Mitchy (happy!) at Musselburgh
Indeed Sammy and I put up a great defence of our fourball betterball trophy and with any luck at all would have been drinking
champagne again this year.
Well done to Robin Mitchell and David Wishart on their win.
Can't really tell you what happened after 6pm on Friday evening because of the Official Secrets Act, so we will move onto Captain's Day at Kings Acre GC. Another lovely venue for Captain's Day, the weather was great and the course in tremendous condition. The bar again came into play at the tenth tee, especially for the Captain's fourball! It ended up being the closest finish to any Captain's Day we have ever had with three players on 36pts. Eventually, once several checks had taken place, Peter Lockard was declared the winner of the ferret for the first time. Peter can now go home and tell his son (Andrew who won the previous year) that whatever he can do, his old dad still had a couple of shots in the old locker yet! Captain Moreland presenting the 'ferret' to Past Captain Lockard. Congratulations Peter!
And so to 2009-2010! Captain Moreland presented Robin MItchell with his Captain's sweater and wished him the very best of luck
for his year. Robin thanked David for a brilliant year and another wonderful weekend's craic and looked forward to another great year
to come.
